Flight From Rome To London

Never have your sister tell you "how unwell she is", then have her sit in front of you on the flight to London. I poked her several times, before she told me "she was still alive".

Did We Have To Leave This Magical Place To Go Back To Rome?

Venice to Rome to Salerno

We began our trip in Venice and took a five and one half hour train ride into Rome before boarding another train for the three hour ride to Salerno passing Naples. We eventually made our way to beautiful breath-taking Amalfi which is further south below Salerno. I uploaded the map so our journey and how much of Italy we covered in ten days.

Vatican City

I was not having the best day when we arrived at Vatican City. On the tour bus, a woman accidentally knocked into me and I pulled my back out. To say the least, I felt miserable, but continued on to walk the square and take pictures of the beautiful buildings. The pope was in Mexico, so we knew there was no chance of seeing him. As I was taking pictures in the square, I was surprised there were so many vendors. These vendors ran up to me asking me to buy scares with a picture of the Vatican on them or plastic sets of rosary beads. I was horrified at the indignity of it all. This is suppose to be a holy place and it was crowded with vendors. The lines into the Vatican were long and I lost my mother and sister, which led to panic, so I boarded the bus and made my way back to the hotel. Rome is not a place a tourist wants to get lost in. I never did return to the Vatican and I cannot say, I regret it.

Castel Sant'Angelo

The castle was originally built as a tomb for the emperor Hadrian, but it was also used as a castle, a prison and a place of last refuge for popes under attack.

The castle prison was the place where Benvenuto Cellini, Cagliostro and Giordano Bruno spent their last days before being burnt on the stake in Campo dei Fiori square.

Today the castle hosts the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo. The bridge that connects the castle with Rome was built in 239 AD. It is the most famous bridge in Rome and it is decorated with angels statues by Bernini.
