Body Art "The New Obsession"

I just do not get it. What is so attractive about this new retro culture called and I say this loosely, Body Art? When I think of Art, I think of something of beauty like a painting or a sculptor or even a well designed building. I can tell you what I do not think when I hear the word Art are tattoos or body piercings all over one's body.

Besides the health risks which I will not bore you with now. Why do people think multi body piercings and tattoos are attractive? I am not talking about someone's cute little flower or butterfly on their ankle, I am talking about not one, not two, not three, but several outrageous and/or down right gross looking characters on one's legs, forearms, backs, shoulders, necks, ect. ect. And worst yet, I see them on young girls. Have these girls any idea what these tattoos all over their bodies will look like in ten or twenty years? Better yet exactly what type of career are they going to get. I have yet to see a professional person with noticeable tattoos on their bodies. If they have them, they are covered up. But unless you are going to wear a sweater or turtleneck everyday for the rest of your life, you cannot cover up those huge tattoos covering your forearm or neck. And let's talk about those piercings, does anyone really need ten holes along the outside of their ear? I would think not! But at least these can be removed when one grows tired of them. But those tattoos, they stay forever.

Working with the public is an education in human behavior. You meet a lot of different people. You get to see a lot of "Body Art". What I have noticed is some folks actually have an obsession or addiction to this culture. They start out with a few piercings in their ears and they move on until the entire parameter of the ear is filled with holes. Then they have their tongue and belly pierced. Then they add a piercing or two to their nose or eyebrow. Then before you know it, their cloritus or penis is pierced to add a matching touch to their already twice pierced breast nipple. And I say " Good God " where does it end? I probably do not want to have that question answered.

And who wants to see Jesus Christ tattooed on someone's neck or f_ _ k you across one's eye lids? I hardly find that attractive!

And when I see these things tattooed on someone's body and/or parts, I just want to take my hands and place them on their shoulders and shake them while screaming in a very loud voice, "What were you thinking"?

I am sure the answer would most certainly be "I was not thinking at all".

So when I encounter a young girl with her boyfriend's name tattooed on her forearm (even though we know he will not be around next year) and multi holes covering unknown parts of her body or the guy with the Blessed Mother and Jesus Christ on his neck, I will continue to shake my head in bewilderment and wonder "What the hell were they thinking"?
