Trust vs. Distrust

In prosperity, our friends know us; in adversity, we know our friends.
                                     John Churton Collins

I am a reader of quotes. Some are ridiculous. Some are uninteresting. Some make no sense. Some hit the nail exactly on the head. The above quote can be very true. Those whom we thought in our corner can turn out to be those who are the first to run, change, hurt us, whereas, those whom we expected nothing are those who have stood strong and tall beside us in time of adversity. It is easy to say, "I care about you" when everything is going great. It is those same people/friends/family who are the first to run, change and hide when adversity strikes.

I never thought I could hate. Today, I realize I can hate. I never thought I could distrust. Today, I trust no one. I never thought the world was an evil vicious place. Today, I believe the world is evil and there is no good. I believed in God. Today, I believe there is no God. I believe in science and history. I do not believe in people. People lie. People hurt you. People cannot be trusted. Always be aware of your surroundings, because there is always something or someone lurking in the background ready to take advantage of your adversity. People care only for their own personal gain. Never ever believe what they tell you because they will be the first to run when adversity strikes.

It saddens me that I have become so cynical.
