Jackson Square and Cabildo Museum

Why the staircases one may think? Because they have beautiful paintings going up and around the three flights of stairs and everytime I tried to zoom in on one the lighting in the room distorted the painting. I do not have Bill's fancy dancy camera. His shots will be much better.
Some interesting facts I discovered in the museum are as followed;
  • 50% of females died before their 20th birthdays, mostly from childbirth in the 1770's.
  • Life expectancy for men was 43 years old.
  • Almost every year there were outbreaks of Yellow Fever, Malaria, and Cholera.
  • West African slaves brought VooDoo.
  • French, Spanish and Irish brought Catholicism.
  • Germans brought Protestant.
  • Irish were brought over to dig out the canals because slaves were too valuable.
  • Irish Canal digger's life expectancy was one year.
  • Most Irish were considered shanty drunks who lacked education.
This metal box is an actual coffin made for a baby. Death was big business in New Orleans and many took advantage of the families who lost a loved one.
This was by far the strangest way to be buried.
I needed a rest.
